Beverage manufacturers and co-packers
Juice, RTD tea and coffee, functional, carbonated, plant milk and alcohol. Every fact is checked against the manufacturer's own published information, with the date we checked it.
Beverage plants split by how the drink is made safe: hot fill for juices and teas, tunnel pasteurization for many canned drinks, aseptic for shelf-stable cartons, and HPP for cold-pressed juice that stays refrigerated123. Juice also has its own FDA rule: juice HACCP calls for control measures that achieve at least a 5-log reduction of the pathogen of concern. Juice sold only directly to consumers at retail is exempt, and juice not processed to a 5-log reduction must carry a warning label4.
Minimums are counted in gallons, cases or cans. Published examples include 1,000 gallons per run for fruit juice and 7,500 gallons per SKU for coffee or plant-based drinks5, and 1,000 to 3,000 cases for a bottled still drink, 2,500 to 10,000 cans for a craft or sleeved canned drink and about 180,000 cans once the cans are industrially printed6.
Alcohol adds the TTB. In contract brewing only the brewer has to qualify as a brewer, while an alternating proprietorship requires both the host and the tenant to qualify and file an agreement7.
